The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to announce the Class 10th and 12th Board Results for 2025, expected between May 1 and May 10, 2025. Over 42 lakh students, including 24.12 lakh from Class 10 and 17.88 lakh from Class 12, appeared for exams held from February 15 to April 4, 2025. Students can download their provisional marksheets online and understand the grading system to interpret their scores. Here’s the latest on how to access results and the CBSE grading system.

Provisional marksheets are for immediate use; original marksheets must be collected from schools.
CBSE Grading System Explained
CBSE uses a 9-point relative grading system for Classes 10 and 12, implemented since 2009–10, to assess performance holistically:
- Grades range from A1 (top 1/8th of passers, 91–100 marks, 10 grade points) to E (below 33% marks, fail).
- B1 grade (71–80 marks, 8 points) is considered very good, with 70% marks being a decent score.
- Students need at least a D grade (33% marks) in each subject (theory, practical, and internal assessments) to pass.
- In subjects with over 500 passers, candidates are ranked and divided into eight equal groups for grading. For subjects with fewer passers, grading mirrors similar subjects.
- Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is calculated by averaging grade points of five main subjects, then multiplying by 9.5 for percentage (e.g., CGPA of 8 = 76%).
This system reduces stress by focusing on grades over precise marks.
